COVID CHRONICLES Day 27

And So We Wait

As it is in life — especially with this virus — what one anticipates for a particular day is often different from what happens.

Today is Day 38 since we went into self-quarantine. I thought I would have my traditional End of Passover meal of pizza and beer and today be officially cleared. But alas…

Still recovering from IBS bout yesterday and it returned today. Suspecting suppresses worrying about Lisa at least partly to blame. Also it was my third straight night of sub-optimal sleep. So, tea and toast, not beer and pizza.

Stanford opened its new Crown Clinic for segmenting all COVID-positive patients only this past Monday. So they are still working out a few things By the time Lisa was able to connect today with the right people, it was too late to get an in-person appointment today. Just as well given how I’m feeling. She has one tomorrow at 4:30pm.

The working assumption of everyone going in is that it is highly likely that this is related to Lisa’s recovery from the virus and highly unlikely she remains contagious. At the same time, we continue with our conservative approach and will remain status quo at least until we have more information from her visit tomorrow.

It’s not like I was going anywhere today anyway. And getting released tomorrow means we can especially enjoy the weekend. And if we have to stay on hold? We’re here as long as it takes.

Right now, I’m just happy that Lisa’s lung issues are being addressed. Because this was already on the docket before the virus hit. A singer needs her breath. Nuff said.

And hopefully we’ll get some more COVID information as well.

On a slightly more upbeat note, today Lisa sent an email (excerpted below) to a wide range of friends and colleagues to update them on her situation. She included the following video, and also shared these thoughts in her first self-originated Facebook post in which she addressed the virus. I always tear up when I hear “the voice of an angel.” I dare you not to do the same…

I have been hearing the refrain of this tender piece in my mind for weeks and finally decided to download the file and share it. Because we all need to remember right now — in our isolation, in moments of fear and despair, as we look to the future and reach for sources of hope — that we are in it together. And if we emerge as a people from this unprecedented period with new clarity, perhaps it will be the shared understanding that we can no longer deny the extent to which we are all intrinsically connected.

Stay safe and well.
